Gluons and the η′–nucleon coupling constant — •Steven Bass — Physik Department, Technische Universität München,

We derive the effective chiral Lagrangian for low-energy η–nucleon and η′–nucleon interactions and show that gluonic degrees of freedom, via the axial UA(1) anomaly, induce a contact term in the pp → pp η and pp → pp η′ reactions. The strength of this contact term is, in part, related to the amount of spin carried by polarised gluons in a polarised proton. Finally, we discuss the consequences for the extraction of gη′ NN from experimental data.
