η and η^′ Meson Production at COSY - 11 — •Paweł Moskal — Institute of Physics, Jagellonian University, ul. Reymonta 4, 30-059 Cracow, Poland

Precise measurements of the total cross section for the pp→ ppη^′ reaction have been performed at the internal installation COSY - 11 using a stochastically cooled proton beam and a hydrogen cluster target. The obtained results rather question the former hypothesis about a possible repulsive interaction between the η^′ meson and the proton. The determined energy dependence of the total cross section in the excess energy range below 25 MeV can be described by phase space and the proton-proton FSI only. Experimental results on the η^′ meson production in the collisions of protons will be discussed in comparison with the creation of the η meson, which has also been studied at the COSY - 11 facility. The magnitude of the production cross section for both pp→ ppη^′ and pp→ ppη will be compared with theoretical models.
