Unexpected results from 239Pu(n,f) in the resolved resonance region — •F.-J. Hambsch, L. Demattè, and H. Bax —

The measurement of the mass and total kinetic energy (TKE) distributions
of 239Pu(n,f) in the resonance energy region has revealed
unexpected results. Unlike it was the case for 235U(n,f) [1] in the
same energy region, no strong fluctuations have been observed for the mass
and TKE distributions for resolved resonances. In fact such fluctuations
have been expected for the fission fragment properties, because the only
possible low-energy spin states (Jπ=0+, 1+) belong to two
well separated (about 1.25 MeV) transition state bands. No spin dependence
nor a depencdence on νp or 1/Γf has been found in
the energy region above 1 eV. The only exception might be the resonance at
0.3 eV. The results will be presented and discussed.
