QCD in Extreme Conditions — •Frank Wilczek — Institute for Advanced Study Princeton, NJ 08540, USA
QCD is a wonderful and correct theory, but we can solve its equations only in special limits. Recently we have made great progress in understanding the behavior of QCD both at high temperature (and low baryon number density) and at high baryon number density (and low temperature). The high-temperature limit is relevant to the early universe and to planned heavy ion collision experiments. The high-density limit is relevant to neutron star interiors; moreover, it turns out to have an amazingly rich and beautiful theoretical description.
