Magnetic Monopoles and Instantons in QCD — •Andreas Wipf — TPI, FS-Universität Jena

One of the most outstanding problems in theoretical physics is the confinement problem in QCD. It has long been argued that monopole condensation could explain the confinement of color through the dual Meissner effect. Recent numerical simulations in various Abelian gauges have convincingly supported this idea. I will review some recent developments related to this attractive scenario. A unified view on the various Abelian gauges and projections is presented. New analytical results concerning the close relation between instantons and monopoles in QCD are discussed. Finally we relate our results to the recently proposed partial duality in Yang-Mills theories which lead to effective theories describing the infrared limit of QCD.
