Multifractal and Wavelet Analysis of Cherenkov images of the HEGRA CT-system — •Marc Hemberger — MPI für Kernphysik, Saupfercheckweg 1, 69117 Heidelberg
An analysis of Cherenkov images with multifractal moments and wavelet parameters [1] was applied to the 1997 HEGRA data of Mkn501 of the Cherenkov telescope system. The fractal parametrization of simulated Cherenkov images agrees well with the measured events. In combination with the traditional Hillas parameters, as a preliminary result a modest improvement of the γ/hadron-separation could be achieved. The dependence of the fractal parameters on shower characteristics as shower height [2], distance to core, image size and zenith angle was investigated. The application of fractal image parametrization to simulated CR-events shows a good potential for separating light nuclei from heavy nuclei events.
