BOREXINO Status Report — •C. Hagner — Technische Universität München, Physik Department E15, James-Franck-Str., D-85748 Garching
The BOREXINO experiment in the Gran Sasso Underground Laboratory will measure the flux of the monoenergetic 7Be solar neutrinos (Eν= 860 keV) via neutrino electron scattering. The neutrino target consists of 300 tons (100 tons fiducial volume) of liquid scintillator contained in a thin nylon vessel. The scintillation light is detected by 2000 photomultiplier tubes. Given the standard solar model neutrino flux, Borexino will detect 50 events/day. With the Counting Test Facility (CTF) it has been demonstrated, that the very severe requirements on the radiopurity of the scintillator can be fullfilled[1],[2],[3]. In this talk the physics goals of BOREXINO, the status of the ongoing installation works, results of radiopurity measurements and the status of the upgraded Counting Test Facility (CTF2) will be presented.
