Irradiation response of straw drift detectors — •Klaus Platzer, Wolfgang Duennweber, Martin Faessler, J. Estermann, Ch. Ilgner, and M. Noll — Sektion Physik, Universitaet Muenchen
Drift tubes filled with mixtures of Ar/CF4/CO2 were exposed to proton beams from the Munich Tandem accelerator to study the radiation effects and operation characteristics expected for the COMPASS experiment at CERN. Stable operation is possible for charge deposits on the anode wire up to 1.2 C/cm. Gas gains and spatial resolutions were studied for a variety of operation parameters.
