The theoretical description of Spin-Resolved Appearance Potential Spectroscopy (SR-APS) for bulk systems has been extended to deal with magnetic surface layer systems. Applications for Fe-layers on top of a (001)-oriented Cu surface are presented and compared with available experimental data. For a most detailed discussion of the results the layer-resolved contributions to the total APS signal are used. This is especially helpful in the case of Fe on top of a Cu-substrate for which non-ferromagnetic spin-structures are very important. Theoretical SR-APS enabled us to give a sound interpretation of the previous experimental results. In particular, it was found that SR-APS spectra of certain anti-ferromagnetic configurations, theoretically predicted to be the ground-state configurations, show a nearly perfect agreement with the corresponding experimental data.
