NMR STUDY ON INCOMMENSURATELY MODULATED CRYSTALS — •Dieter Michel1, Jörn Petersson2, and Frank Decker21Universität Leipzig, Fakultät für Physik und Geowissenschaften, Linne-Straße 5, 04103 Leipzig — 2Universität des Saarlandes, Fachbereich Physik, 66041 Saarbrücken

The transition from the paraelectric high-temperature (N) phase to the structurally incommensurately (IC) modulated phase of betaine calciumchloride dihydrate (BCCD) and rubidium tetrachlo- rozincate (RZC) is investigated by means of NMR. The critical exponent of the order parameter (OP) is determined and discussed within the xy model. Spin-lattice relaxation measurements on RZC revealed an extreme critical softening of the OP fluctuations.
