Fluid-Crystal Coexistence Region in Charged Polystyrene Colloids — •Jianing Liu — Universiät Mainz, Institut für Physik, AG Koma 336, Staudingerweg 7, D-55099 Mainz

Charged-stabilized colloidal suspensions of spherically shaped particles show a variety of interesting properties. Light scattering has been one of the most important ways to characterize colloidal suspensions. Up to now, the usage of experimental tools to determine fluid-crystal coexistence region still face many difficulties, e.g. sample preparation with well defined conditions in dillute, narrow fluid-crystal coexistence region, determine particle number density in fluid, crystalline and coexistence region via light scattering. In this poster, we will present our results to solve these problems. We show a more exact empirical law for melted suspension instead of approximated formula which commonly used in light scattering of fluid suspension. We also compare our experimental results with theoretical criteria to get a good understanding for determining fluid-crystal coexistence region.
