Elastic manifolds in disorder: є expansion, roughness, and universality — •Stefan Scheidl and Yusuf Dincer — Inst. Theoret. Physik, Univ. Köln
Elastic manifolds in disorder are a paradigmatic model for a variety of physical systems. The roughness exponent is a fundamental quantity that characterizes not only their structure but also the creep dynamics. This exponent can be calculated theoretically by means of renormalization group techniques in d=4−є dimensions. So far, these calculations were possible only to lowest order O(є) and higher orders seemed to be inaccessible and of fractional powers. We employ a soft-cutoff renormalization scheme, which allows to demonstrate explicitly the independence of the exponent on the regularization scheme (universality) and from which we obtain the exponent in O(є2).
