Investigation and Characterization of Polymer Light Emitting Diodes with Ion Scattering Techniques — •Gunther G. Andersson, Hidde H. Brongersma, Martien J.A. de Voigt, Leo J. IJzendoorn, Arnoud W. The performance and lifetime of Polymer Light Emitting Diodes

(pLEDs) depend on the chosen material and the stability of the

deposited layer structure. We investigate pLEDs or half

fabricates produced in a system under controlled nitrogen

atmosphere with an attached UHV-evaporation chamber. Changing

the structure of the LEDs by modification of interfaces or

adding layers of different materials results in changes of

I-V-light characteristics and lifetime. The influence of the

modification on the composition of the layers and the

interfaces on the I-V light characteristics and aging

processes can be measured with ion scattering techniques

such as Low Energy Ion Scattering (LEIS), Rutherford

Backscattering Spectrometry (RBS), Elastic Recoil Detection

Analysis (ERDA) and Particle Induced X-Ray Emission (PIXE).

Examples for different systems will be presented.
