We have studied electrical transport through single multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWNT’s) attached to metal contacts. High transparency between the contacts and the MWNT’s is obtained. Evidence for Luttinger-liquid behavior has been found.
A) The conductance correction to the ideal value G0 = 4 e2 /h is predicted to be δ G ∼ T−p . This dependence fits our data over a broad temperature range yielding exponents 0.1 ≤ p ≤ 0.3.
B) The conductance fluctuations Δ Gsd as a function of gate voltage follow a power-law dependence on temperature. The exponent for Δ Gsd increases with increasing nanotube length.
C) A zero-bias anomaly has been observed in the differential conductance for samples with a tunneling contact to the MWNT’s. The conductance and the differential conductance show power-law dependences on temperature and bias voltage respectively.
