Measurements of transport and Luttinger-liquid behaviour in single-walled carbon nanotubes — •David Cobden, Jesper Nygard, Mads Munch-Andreasen, and Poul-Erik Lindelof — Niels Bohr Institute, University of Copenhagen, Denmark
The conduction electrons in a single-walled carbon nanotube are expected to behave in a correlated manner described by the theory of Luttinger liquids, whose physical properties are power-law functions of energy. The first strong evidence to support this prediction was the unusual temperature and bias dependences found for the conductance of individual nanotube bundles with tunneling contacts. We discuss the results of further experiments done in the last year, paying particular attention to their implications for the Luttinger liquid scenario. These include transport measurements on tube devices incorporating well-contacted metallic tubes, tubes hanging in vacuum, and inter-tube junctions.
