Femtosecond time resolved UPS on metals — •Atilla Atli, Ping Zhou, John Beesley, Martin Aeschlimann und Dietrich von der Linde — Institut für Laser- und Plasmaphysik, Universität Essen

We performed time resolved ultraviolet photoelectron

spectroscopy by using high order harmonic generation for

the production of femtosecond VUV pulses. These pulses

were generated by interaction of intense ultrashort laser

pulses (from a Ti:Sapphire laser system) with rare gases in a

hollow fiber. Photon energies can easily be selected in a range

from 1.55 eV to 45 eV (with a step of 3.1 eV).

Using this VUV pulses we have measured photoelectron spectra

on different metal surfaces. We are using optical pump VUV probe

technique for studying the dynamics on metal surfaces in sub

picosecond time resolution.
