Chern-Simons theory for electrons in high Landau levels — •Stefan Scheidl and Bernd Rosenow — Inst. Theoret. Physik, Univ. Köln
We develop a Chern-Simons-Ginzburg-Landau theory to describe a two-dimensional electron gas in intermediate magnetic fields. From this theory the formation of a charge-density-wave (CDW) state at half filling of high Landau levels is derived. The CDW consists of incompressible stripes with diamagnetic edge currents. The alignment of the CDW in a tilted magnetic field is studied and found to be in agreement with recent experiments.
