Specific heat capacity of the semimetal Ce3Cu3Sb4 in magnetic fields up to 14 T — •W. Schnelle1 and R.K. Kremer2 — 1Max-Planck-Institut für Chemische Physik fester Stoffe, Dresden, Germany — 2Max-Planck-Institut für Festkörperforschung, Stuttgart, Germany
Ce3Cu3Sb4 is a cubic compound exhibiting semimetallic to semiconducting behaviour and a phase transition to a state with a spontaneous magnetic moment at ≈11 K. The specific heat capacity of Ce3Cu3Sb4 was measured between 0.6 K and 100 K in magnetic fields up to 140 kOe. The lattice contribution was estimated using the isostructural La3Cu3Sb4. The magnetic ordering transition of Ce3Cu3Sb4 at 10.85(2) K shows up as a tiny step-like anomaly in the magnetic specific heat, while the low-temperature behaviour is dominated by a broad hump centred at 4.8(1) K. With small magnetic fields (<10 kOe) the transition shifts to higher temperatures and disappears. The hump at low T broadens and shifts to higher temperatures with the increase of the magnetic field to 140 kOe. Our results are discussed in the context of a recent determination of the magnetic structure of Ce3Cu3Sb4 which indicates a magnetic ordering with the full saturated theoretical Ce3+ moment.
