Cluster-cluster and cluster-surface collision studies — •Syargey Prasalovich, Alexei Glotov, Vladimir Popok, and Eleanor E.B. Campbell — School of Physics and Engineering Physics, Gothenburg University and Chalmers University of Technology, SE-41296 Gothenburg
Fullerene - fullerene collisions in the gas phase were studied as a function of the collision energy and scattering angle. The deep inelastic scattering, fusion, multifragmentation and charge transfer reaction channels were investigated in the collision energy range of 50-3000 eV. The experimental data is compared with the results of quantum mechanical and classical molecular dynamics simulations as well as with simple models.
Future work will focus on the dynamical behavior of clusters excited by surface impact. In order to observe the emission of light from clusters impacting on surfaces a new set-up was built. It includes a supersonic source (pulsed valve) of gas clusters, TOF spectrometer, light collection system, differential pumping system and moveable target. First experimental results will be reported.
