Wannier-Stark resonances in biased infinite superlattices — •S. Mossmann, M. Glück, A. R. Kolovsky, and H. J. Korsch — Fachbereich Physik, Universität Kaiserslautern

In recent years there was a strong research activity concerning the physics of biased semiconductor superlattices. However there is still a lack of convenient methods to calculate the resonances in these systems. Here we present two approaches to this topic which provide energy and lifetime of the resonances for periodic box- and sawtooth-potentials. On the one hand we extend the method of transfer matrices to infinite systems, on the other hand we provide a new approach which is based on a momentum space formulation of the scattering theory for Stark systems. In contrast to the first one, the second approach can be used to calculate Wannier-Stark resonances in any periodic potential. We compare the density of states, resonance energies and wave functions calculated with both methods.
