Relaxed-orbital and sudden perturbation approximations for the ionization of atoms by electrons — •Nerijus Rakštikas and Alicija Kupliauskienė — State Institute of Theoretical Physics and Astronomy, A.Goštauto 12, 2600 Vilnius, Lithuania

The cross sections of the 1s ionization of Li and Li+ and 2p ionization of Na and Na+ by electrons are calculated in the plane-wave-Born approximation using both relaxed-orbital (RO) and sudden perturbation (SP) methods [1]. The comparison of the calculated cross sections with experimental data [2,3] allows us to do the conclusion that the cross section of RO is in better agreement with experiment for small and middle energies of impacting electron, while the SP method is preferable for high energies. Far from the ionization threshold the difference between the RO and SP cross sections is very small.
