Projectile electron loss in ultrarelativistic collisions with neutral targets — •Carsten Müller, Norbert Grün, and Alexander Voitkiv — Institut für theoretische Physik II der Justus-Liebig-Universität Gießen
The electron loss cross section for hydrogen-like projectiles in ultrarelativistic collisions (160 GeV/u) with neutral atomic targets has been calculated both in the first order of perturbation theory and in an eikonal approximation which is exact in the ultrarelativistic limit γ → ∞. The results show the relative importance of nonperturbative effects in different collision systems.
