Elastic scattering of single atoms by Bose-Einstein condensates — •Ivo Häring and Jan-Michael Rost — Max-Planck-Institute for the Physics of Complex Systems Dresden
Bose-Einstein condensates in spherically symmetric magnetic traps are governed by a single parameter Γ which is the ratio of the number of condensed particles times the s-wave scattering length of the atoms over the characteristic length of the trap. Corresponding to attractive and repulsive binary interactions, e.g. 7 Li and 23Na, 87Rb respectively, the parameter is negative or positive.
Elastic partial and total cross sections are formulated in the Born approximation and additionaly by keeping only terms of highest order in the number N0 of particles in the condensate [1]. Convergence properties of the full Born series are investigated using an analytical expression for the field operator in the limit of large Γ [2].
Results for the cross sections will be presented as a function of Γ and the impact energy.
