Radiative lifetimes of 8p 3P1,2 states of HgI — •V. Pentchev, K. Blagoev, and G. Bobcheva — Institute of Solid State Phys., 72 Tz. Chaussee, 1784 Sofia, BULGARIA
In the mercury atom spectra the radiative lifetimes( transition probabilities respectively ) are well known for the low-lying 6p 1,3P states. There is only one work in which the np 3P1,2 states with n = 8,9,10 were measured [1].
We investigate the radiative lifetimes of 8p 3P1,2 states using the delayed coincidence method and pulse electron excitation. The atoms in the diffusion cell are excited by electron pulse with duration varying from 10ns to 400ns. The electron energies are varied in the interval 15 - 60 eV.
The radiative lifetimes were obtained after extrapolation of the data derived at different concentration to zero concentration.
Our preliminary results for the radiative lifetimes of some of the sates are:
8p 3P1 - 160ns
8p 3P2 - 170ns
These results are obtained at determinated concentration and electron energy and are in agreement with the available theoretical data [2].
