Term analysis of Mo II — •Hampus Nilsson — Lund University, Box 118, 221 00 Lund, Sweden

The increased resolution and extended frequency region of astronomical spectra from modern observatories on ground and in space have set new requirements on the quality and availability of atomic data used in the analysis. In order to provide values of atomic parameters needed for a chemical analysis of a star, the energy level structure of atoms and ions has to be extensively known.

During the last twenty years an extensive laboratory program has been performed at Lund on the analysis of the level structure of singly ionized transition elements. Some elements show unexplained enhancements in their abundance in some stars. Such an element is molybdenum.

In this poster we present an extended analysis of Mo II, which has resulted in about 100 new energy levels. The lowest levels of the previously unknown configurations 4d35s2, 4d46s, 4d45d and 4d35s5p have been found. Some levels from the previous analysis by Kiess (1958) have been renamed and all but a few levels in that paper are confirmed. Our results are based on spectra recorded by Fourier transform spectrometers at Lund University, Sweden, and at Imperial College, London, UK, using hollow cathode and Penning discharge lamps as light sources. Along with this investigation of Mo II we report on other term analyses of atomic spectra that are in progress at Lund.
