Triply excited Rydberg series and their doubly excited limits — •Lars Bojer Madsen — Institute of Physics and Astronomy, University of Aarhus, DK-8000 Aarhus C, Denmark
Rydberg series in triply excited atomic systems behave very differently, with respect to autoionization, than series in doubly excited systems. As opposed to doubly excited states, triply excited Rydberg levels will always start to overlap as the series limit is approached. It is possible to predict the autoionization width of a triply excited Rydberg state from the doubly excited ionic series limit. The predictions are llustrated for the 2s2p (3Po)nl (4Po) series in hollow lithium
