Pronounced resonance-like enhancements have been recently
observed near the low-energy end of the high-harmonic generation
[1] and above-threshold ionization plateaus [2].
We investigate these features for high-harmonic generation,
using simplified atomic models. In particular, we address the
question of which of the physical pictures describing the
enhancements, namely resonances involving ponderomotively
upshifted Rydberg states [3] or channel-closing effects [4], is
correct, or whether they are complementary aspects of a more
complete description.
