Quantum Life-Times from the Classical Phase-Space — •Nenad Simonovic and Jan-Michael Rost — Max-Planck-Institute for the Physics of Complex Systems, Noethnitzer Str. 38, D-01187 Dresden, Germany
Starting from the assumption that two main effects responsible for the autoionization of resonant states are the quantum mechanical tunneling and the instability of underlying classical configurations, we investigate the influence of the latest to the life-times of intra-shell resonances of two-electron atomic systems. Examinations of the phase-space structure of the helium, the hydrogen negative ion and the positronium negative ion show that different life-times of the resonant states for these three systems is a consequence of different stabilities of the quantum mechanically relevant classical configurations.
