Fine(fs)- and hyperfine structure (hfs) analysis using
semi-empirical methods may be much more successful than ab inito
theoretical calculations if experimental data are available to a sufficient
amount. The results of the hfs analysis are a good test for the
quality of the wavefunctions and for the identification of the levels at
every
step of the process of optimization of the fs parameters; they
also
provide useful predictions of fs and hfs properties in
various configurations of an element.
Application of laser spectroscopic methods in the hfs measurements
of
Pr II [1] creates possibilities of a significant progress in the
investigation. In this work the hfs analysis of all the
experimental
data available until now has been performed in a basis expanded over 4
configurations; ( 4f36s +4f35d+4f25d6p+4f2
6s6p) . That allowed us to determine the values of hfs
radial
parameters of the above configurations for the first time and to predict
hfs splittings of the remaining levels of the system, which have
not
been observed until now. The results obtained herein will be useful for
further systematic investigation of the atomic structure of
praseodymium.
