In photosynthesis about 50 with the LHC-II complex being one of the most abundant proteins on earth. Its main task is to capture sunlight and funnel the absorbed energy to the reaction center where charge separation takes place. Nevertheless, the energy migration within the antenna is still under debate.

Low temperature (T = 2K) fluorescence emission spectroscopy of single LHC-II monomers and trimers has been carried out. Polarization depending emission spectra lead to the conclusion of more than one state responsible for fluorescence. This is probably due to either dramatically changes of the photophysical properties of the pigments or due to large spectral jumps caused by conformational changes of the protein environment.
