Theory of Laser Pulse Control of Ultrafast Molecular Dymanics — •Tomas Mancal and Volkhard May — Institut für Physik, Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin, Hausvogteiplatz 5-7, 10117 Berlin
In recent years considerable success has been achieved in the field of laser pulse control of molecular dynamics. This became possible by combining feedback control and a very flexible pulse shaping technique (Gerber et al., Science 259 (1998) 1581). On the other hand, different theoretical methods among them the optimal control theory are known for nearly a decade. In order to fill the gap between experimental and theoretical approaches, we combine the experimental pulse shaping procedure with the optimal control theory. The method exclusively restricts the computations to experimentally available pulses. It is demonstrated for the laser pulse control of (i) ultrafast bridge mediated electron transfer, and of (ii) dissipative vibrational wavepacket dynamics in dissolved molecules.
