Temperature dependence of piezoelectric resonances in the dielectric spectrum of charge-storing polymers — •Axel Mellinger, Werner Wirges, and Reimund Gerhard-Multhaupt — Universität Potsdam, Institut für Physik, Am Neuen Palais 10, 14469 Potsdam, Germany
The temperature dependence of the d33 piezoelectric coefficient is a crucial factor in industrial applications of piezoelectric polymeric sensor materials. For free-standing polymer films, the relevant mechanical and piezoelectric coefficients can be determined from piezoelectric resonances in the dielectric spectrum [1]. In the present work, length-extension, thickness-extension and radial modes of different charge-storing polymers, including porous polypropylene, porous polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE), and a chromophore-doped cycloolefin copolymer have been investigated at different temperatures. The elastic and piezoelectric constants were then obtained by fitting theoretical expressions [2] for the selected sample geometries to the experimental data.
