Semiconductor nanoparticles prepared by a wet chemical route are of particular technological interest because of their low production costs and simple handling. Electrophoresis hast urned out to be a promising routine to prepare well ordered thin films of nanoparticles. As was demonstrated by Solomentsev [1] and Trau [2], small particles can form periodic structures when deposited in an electric field. We demonstrate that this technique can be utilized to prepare one-dimensional structures in the nanometer range using organically stabilized CdS nanoparticles. Using atomic force microscopy (AFM) the influence of different preparation parameters (electric field strength, organic stabilizers of the particles, and substrate) can be demonstrated and will be discussed in detail. (funded within SFB 410, TP C5).
