Polyelectrolytes at the Air-Water-Interface — •Ahrens Heiko1, Förster Stephan2, and Helm Christiane1 — 1Institut für Angewandte Physik, EMAU-Greifswald — 2Universtität Hamburg
The phasebehaviour of a block-Polyethylene (PEE) - block -Polystryrenesulfonicacid (PSS) copolymer is investigated at the air - water -interface by isotherms, x-ray and neutron reflexion. The liquid and incompressible PEE serves as anchor for the Polyelectrolyte. Chain length, grafting density and saltconcentration of subphase were varied. Brush thickness, incooperation of counterions and monomer density profiles will be discussed for the phases:
Osmotic brush : < 0.1 M added Salt
Salted brush : 0.1-1M
Neutral Coils and Brush : 3 M
PSS is adsorbing at the interface and a pancake to mushroom desorption transition is observed at high salt (3M) concentration
