Since several years the swelling/de-swelling behaviour of thermosensitive microparticles is of many interest because of their fast response to external stimuli in comparison to the bulk phase. In addition, a detailed knowledge of the swelling behaviour in confined geometries will invoke a better physical understanding of the mechanism of the observed volume phase transition. This knowledge can then be used to design complex materials for technical applications (e.g. sensors). Here, it is important to achieve detailed information on the properties of the sensitive material after adsorption to solid substrates. In the experimental cycle reported here we implemented a thermosensitive polyelectrolyte into the interface-bound films by layer-by-layer adsorption of opposite charged polyelectrolytes. Different blockcopolymers consisting of a thermosensitive block and a charged block were used. Results of x-ray measurements demonstrate a successive formation of the multilayer system. Structure and thermal behaviour of the functionalized films were investigated by neutron reflectivity against D2O. The results were compared with the behaviour of reference samples built from thermo-insensitive material only.
