Studies of soft X-ray and extreme ultra-violet (XUV) emission from laboratory laser based XUV sources are of fundamental interest and lead simultaneously to promising applications. In this contribution we focus on the emission from cryogenic liquid jets, which are used as target for plasma formation. We show the experimental realization of either liquid nitrogen or liquid argon jets in vacuum with diameters of up to 30 µm. Two different laser systems were used to irradiate the liquid jets, a Nd:YAG at 532 nm (3 ns, 250 mJ) and a Ti:Sapphire-system at 800 nm (70 fs…250 ps, 50 mJ). We present the obtained spectra for the different target materials and show the dependence on the laser pulse duration of the measured photon flux. The highest photon flux was obtained with the Nd:YAG-laser and a 30 µm nitrogen jet and found to be 1.5·1012 photons per pulse and steradian in the nitrogen Ly-α line.
