A Molecular Beam Experiment for Studying Non-Linear Processes of Atoms and Clusters with VUV-FEL Radiation — •Hubertus Wabnitz, Klaus von Haeften, Peter Gürtler, Tim Laarmann, Wiebke Laasch, Anja Swiderski, and Thomas Möller — HASYLAB/DESY, Notkestr.85, D-22603 Hamburg
We present a molecular beam experiment for the generation of atomic and cluster beams (Xe,Kr,Ar). A pulsed beam intersects the focal point of a free-electron laser (FEL) operating at wavelengths around 100 nm. Fluorescence emitted from clusters can be recorded in integral and energy resolved mode both in the visible and near infrared (VIS/IR) and in the vacuum ultra violet (VUV) spectral range. In addition photo-electrons and ions are detected using time-of-flight techniques. A special detector is designed for recording the higher harmonics spectrum.
The purpose of our experiment is to characterize the performance of the free-electron laser at DESY and to study non-linear processes at wavelengths which have previously not been accessible.
