The radiation of fullerene molecules from the intersection area of the C60 beam with an electron beam with an energy of Ee, eV ≤100 was studied previously [1]. It was found that ionized highly excited ions C60+* make the main contribution to the radiation [2]. In this work the kinetics of the C60+* formation and its radiative cooling were studied. Hot C60+* ions are formed upon the thermal emission of an electron. The characteristic time of the thermal electron emission is 6 µs, the formation cross-section of radiative ions C60+* is 2×10−2 nm2 at Ee = 60 eV. The radiation intensity and the temperature of C60+* as functions of the energy Ee were measured. The rate of the radiation loss of the ion energy (5.5×105 eV/s) was determined at a temperature of 3150 K. For the heat model of radiation at the wavelength λ = 540 nm, this corresponds to the emissivity ε = 1.1×10−2.
