Surface Dynamics of Alkali-doped Helium Nanodroplets Probed with Femtosecond Laser Pulses — •P. Claas1, C.P. Schulz2, and F. Stienkemeier11Fakultät für Physik, Universität Bielefeld, Universitätsstr. 25, D-33615 Bielefeld, Germany — 2Max-Born-Institut, Max-Born-Str. 2a, D-12489 Berlin, Germany

The dynamics of helium nanodroplets doped with single cesium atoms is studied by means of femtosecond pump-probe spectroscopy. After electronic excitation of the cesium, which resides in a dimple on the surface of the helium cluster, the extended orbit of the valence electron leads to a strong repulsion to helium environment. Detecting cesium atoms, photo-ionized by the femtosecond probe pulse, the subsequent response of the helium surface is followed in time. Depending on the size of the helium clusters (HeN, 500 <N < 10000) the excitation of surface and bulk modes is observed.
