The dynamics of helium nanodroplets doped with single cesium atoms is studied by means of femtosecond pump-probe spectroscopy. After electronic excitation of the cesium, which resides in a dimple on the surface of the helium cluster, the extended orbit of the valence electron leads to a strong repulsion to helium environment. Detecting cesium atoms, photo-ionized by the femtosecond probe pulse, the subsequent response of the helium surface is followed in time. Depending on the size of the helium clusters (HeN, 500 <N < 10000) the excitation of surface and bulk modes is observed.
