We have obtained new infra-red - microwave double resonance spectra of OCS in superfluid helium droplets. To get new insights in the interaction between the dopant molecule and the helium droplet we have performed measurements in pure 4He as well as in mixed 4He/3He droplets. The experiments give detailed information about the underlaying principles of the coupling of the molecular motion and its helium environment. It turns out that the helium environment can quantitatively be described as a harmonic oscillator potential. The coupling between the rotational and translational motion of the molecule in the potential gives rise to additional spectral line splittings.
