Investigation of Energy Transfer Processes using Time-resolved Infrared and Raman Spectroscopy — •Marko Bartel, Gerhard Seifert, Toralf Patzlaff, and Heinrich Graener — Martin-Luther-Universität Halle-Wittenberg, FB Physik, 06099 Halle

Infrared double resonance and spontaneous Raman scattering after infrared excitation are powerful pump-probe experiments to study vibrational relaxation processes in liquids. The combination of both methods is used for investigation of intra- and intermolecular vibrational energy transfer of small molecules. For a mixture of bromoform and d-bromoform a detailed study, including experiments on the pure liquids, shows that energy flows via the C-Br stretching vibration from one molecule to the other. A similar result was found by analyzing high resolution Raman spectra of chloroform/d-chloroform-mixtures.
