Mass selective high resolution Anion-Zeke-Spectroscopy of Cl00- — •Christoph Ueberfluss and Ulrich Boesl — Lichtenbergstr. 4, 85747 Garching

Halogen oxides play a relevant role in the photochemistry of ozone in the stratosphere. Secifically the short lived radical Cl00 takes part in the catalytical ozone depletion process. Anion-Zeke-Spectroscopy is a type of high resolution anion-photoelectron spectroscopy which provides an elegant way to perform spectroscopy on such short lived intermediates. In the experiment a multitude of molecular anions are produced by laser induced attachment of photoelectrons. Single masses are selected out of this multitude employing a time-of-flight mass spectrometer. To study the corresponding neutral molecules and molecular clusters, the anions are photodetached in the space focus of the time-of-flight mass spectrometer with a tunable laser. At the threshold of a neutral state, the detached electrons have a minimum kinetic energy. It is these Zeke (zero kinetic energy) electrons which are discriminated from the kinetic ones by delayed extraction and geometry which provide the high resolution of photoelectron spectra when they are recorded.
