In this work we report a spectroscopic investigation of ν1 and ν3 bands of water vapor in the spectral range around 3 µm. As coherent radiation we use a Difference Frequency Generation (DFG) using a periodically poled lithium niobate crystal. The signal and pump lasers are a diode pumped Nd-YAG (λ= 1064 nm) and an extended cavity semiconductor diode laser (λ= 785 nm) respectively. The power obtained for the idler beam is about 160 nW with 340 mW of signal and 3.4 mW of pump corresponding to an efficiency of 0.001 %/(W cm). Within the spectral range of the generated mid-IR radiation the investigated water lines exhibit and intensity between 10−22 and 10−20 cm/molecule. Lineshapes of several rovibrational lines are recorded through a simple absorption signal. In order to estimate the broadening coefficients in presence of N2, O=2 and H2O itself, the absorption lineshapes are analyzed using the ordinary Voigt profile and the Nelkin-Ghatak profile which is suitable for the hard-collision model.
