The rotationally resolved A²Π_u−X²Π_g electronic origin band spectrum of tetra-acetylene cation and its deuterated derivative has been recorded in the gas phase, applying both frequency-production double modulation spectroscopy in a liquid nitrogen cooled hollow cathode discharge (T_rot ∼ 150 K) and cavity ring down spectroscopy in a supersonic planar plasma (T_rot ∼ 10 K). The combined analysis of the rotational structure yields accurate molecular constants for the ground and electronically excited states as well as information on the molecular geometry.
