Optical-optical double resonance experiments on pentacene molecules in a supersonic jet — •G. Hoheisel, E. Heinecke, and A. Hese — Technische Universität Berlin, Institut für Atomare und Analytische Physik, Hardenbergstr. 36, 10623 Berlin
Due to small rotational constants of large molecules, such as pentacence, the density of rotational energy levels is generally very high. Thus, it is virtually impossible to spectrally resolve individual rovibronic transitions, even in the case of cold molecules in a highly collimated supersonic jet. However, the large number of overlapping transitions can be reduced by the pump and probe principle in an optical–optical double resonance (OODR) experiment. The poster discusses such an experiment on jet–cooled pentacene in the region of the rovibronic origin S0,0→ S1,0. The presented preliminary results show the great potential of this method for spectroscopic investigations involving large organic compounds, particularly regarding electron and proton transfer mechanisms.
