Vibronic states of Kr2+ below the first dissociation limit — •Andrea Wüest, Patrick Rupper, and Frédéric Merkt — Laboratorium für Physikalische Chemie, ETH Zürich, CH-8092 Zürich, Switzerland
The vibronic states of two isotopomers of Kr2+ (84Kr2+ and 84Kr-86Kr+) have been studied by pulsed-field-ionisation zero-kinetic-energy (PFI-ZEKE) photoelectron spectroscopy using a (2+1’) resonance-enhanced three-photon excitation scheme via selected Rydberg states of Kr2. This excitation scheme has enabled the exploration of the long-range part of the molecular ion potential and the observation of more than fifty vibronic states located within 2000 cm−1 of the dissociation limit. These states form vibrational progressions that can be assigned to several electronic states of the ion. In particular, accurate spectroscopic constants and the dissociation energy for the I(3/2g) state of Kr2+ have been determined for the first time. From a preliminary analysis, this dissociation energy D0+(84Kr2+, I(3/2g)) = (1648.2 ± 2.0) cm−1 is found to be much larger than reported in previous experimental studies.
