Multiple fragmentation of Fe(CO)5 detected via time–resolved photoelectron spectroscopy — •V. Engel, M. Erdmann, and O. Rubner — Institut für Physikalische Chemie, Universität Würzburg, Am Hubland, D-97074 Würzburg, Germany

The fragmentation dynamics of Fe(CO)5 upon femtosecond excitation is investigated. Transient experiments which detect the yield of ionic fragments as a function of the delay time between two ultrashort laser pulses, cannot distinguish between fragmentation processes occuring in the neutral or ionic manifold. Using a simple model [1], we show that the detection of time–resolved photoelectron spectra allows for the identification of fragmentation pathways involving only neutral molecules. Thus it should be possible to obtain a more detailed picture of the multiple fragmentation dynamics.
