AMS with the gas-filled-magnet at the Munich Tandem Accelerator — •K. Knie1, T. Faestermann1, G. Korschinek1, G. Rugel2, A. Wallner2, and C. Wallner11Technische Universität München, Physik Department — 2Ludwig Maximilians Universität München, Institut für Radiobiologie

The gas-filled-magnet GAMS at the Munich Tandem accelerator has proven to be a most sensitive instrument for heavy long-lived radionuclides. This motivated us to tackle several demanding studies, like the determination of the fast neutron fluence in Hiroshima [measurement of 63Ni (T1/2= 100 a) formed by 63Cu(n,p)63Ni] and the detection of supernova formed radionuclides on Earth [measurement of 60Fe (T1/2= 1.5 Ma) in deep ocean aggregations]. Ultrahigh sensitivity has also been reached for actinide ions, especially for Pu isotopes. Recent results will be shown. Technical details of the AMS facility will be discussed.
