We apply the method of postionisation of sputtered neutral constituents (L-SNMS)[1] to determine three dimensional element distributions. This method is extremely versatile for analysis of a broad range of solid samples at minimum preparation effort. We have analyzed neolithic objects from an under-water excavation site in the Lake Constance, dated 3700 BC. One object shows green spots, which were found to contain copper. The other sample shows golden-yellow shining areas on the surface. These spots are detected to consist of FeS2 (pyrite). A second analysis regards depth profiles of GaN-samples, used for blue sensitive photo diodes. These samples are prepared by molecular beam epitaxy. They show gallium droplet formations due to gallium rich growth. We demonstrate that our apparatus combines high spatial resolution 3D imaging with large dynamic range in element concentration.
