Investigation of Excited State Density of Xenon in a Microhollow Cathode Using Hook Method — •Evgeni Davliatchine, Frank Adler, and Eckhard Kindel — Institut für Niedertemperatur - Plasmaphysik e.V., Friedrich-Ludwig-Jahn-Straße 19, 17489 Greifswald, Germany

Microhollow Cathode Glow Discharges (MHGD) were shown to be relatively efficient sources for UV / VUV - radiation. Using Xenon as working gas, the resonance radiation or excimer radiation is utilized, depending on the pressure. The metastable state of Xenon (1s5) is known to be an important precursor leading to excimer radiation. Therefore, its diagnostics is crucial, concerning the development of efficient VUV radiation sources based on MHGD.

Here, the Hook Method as a non disturbing interferometric technique is used. It allows the determination of absolute density numbers of atomic ground states and of excited states. We will be presenting the behaviour of the metastable state density of Xe (1s5) in a MHGD at varying discharge conditions such as pressure, discharge voltage and current.
